About

Join us for our very first Jack & Jill competition—a true test of skill, style, and connection. Dance with different partners, show off your musicality, technique, and flair, and shine on the social floor.

Open to all full pass holders, judged individually by top national and international instructors. Whether you’re new or experienced, this is your chance to make your mark and celebrate the rich flavours of Bachata.

Whether you’re dancing for growth, glory, or just for the fun of it — this is your moment. Show us your flavour.

Divisions & Experience Criteria

Note: we need at least 5 couples per division for each division to run

To ensure fair and balanced competition, dancers will be divided based on experience and professional involvement as follows:

  1. Amateur

    • Less than 12 months of Bachata experience.

    • Note: If a competitor has less than 12 months experience but is actively assisting or teaching classes (voluntary or paid), they will compete in the Experienced division.

  2. Experienced

    • 12 or more months of Bachata experience and/or currently assisting, teaching, or earning income from dance (paid or voluntary).
      1. Bachata Flavour reserves the right to add a semi-pro division and invite dancers with teaching/assisting experience to compete in this category instead of experienced.

Judging Criteria

Each competitor will be evaluated on a pass/fail basis in the following categories:

1 - Musicality & Timing

Assesses how well the dancer interprets the music — including rhythm, phrasing, breaks, and changes — while staying in time with the beat. Judges will look for musical awareness and creativity in response to the song’s dynamics.

2 - Technique

Evaluates the dancer’s control, posture, balance, footwork precision, and clarity of movement. Good technique supports safe and clean dancing, regardless of style.

3 - Connection

Focuses on the dancer’s ability to establish and maintain a responsive connection with their partner — whether leading or following. This includes physical connection, communication, and adaptability during partner rotation.

4 - Attire & Presentation

Looks at overall visual impression, including appropriate, neat, and expressive attire that reflects the dancer’s chosen style. Grooming, confidence, and stage presence are also considered.
